West Linton Facebook Group

The West Linton community website has had a discussion forum for about 8 years now, but over the last 18 months usage has declined to the almost non-existent. So I recently set up a Facebook Group (takes about a minute) and within a week, there were 100 members signed up and contributing. I'm sure the current snowy weather conditions help community involvement, but I think it proves the move away from just old style web content where you had to proactively visit a website to find out about it, to acknowledging that you need to be where your users are - and increasingly that means Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

Even if it's just another way of getting people back to your website, YouTube in particular can be a very powerful part of your search engine optimisation strategy..
